Pahaadi Haldi । Turmeric

Our ancestors have grown their own turmeric for centuries, and the local variety is far more potent than the ones which grow further south of the Himalaya.

You as a customer would find that the oil content of our turmeric is so rich that the plastic packaging becomes oily to the touch. Read more...

Another tell-tale sign of good quality turmeric is the fragrance. What we bring to you is the kind which if you leave the container lid open for a few hours your entire apartment will smell of turmeric.

Ours are ancient agricultural practices which are very labour intensive but use entirely natural methods.

The fields are ploughed and fertilized with manure usually made of cowdung and sometimes goat shit as well. The turmeric mother-rhizomes are planted and another round of manure is then used to cover the entire field. The field then requires weeding every three months until harvest. So a yearly harvest would mean 3-4 rounds of weeding. Sometimes the turmeric is not harvested for 2 years in a row. This results in a better quality product. Once they are taken out of the ground the mother-rhizomes are kept for replanting and the “fingers” are taken off, cleaned thoroughly, dried, ground and packaged.
